A poem about pet loss that you can share with someone who needs to hear it.
I went through an incredibly difficult time, and I still do occasionally. My dear little Chihuahua, Max, had to be put to sleep because he had cancer. Towards the end, he seemed so tired and uncomfortable.
The day I arranged to take him to the vet is one I'll never forget. Suddenly, he seemed well, happy, and was wagging his tail, which made me question my decision. The vet reassured me that it was Max's time.
Now, I like to think that Max knew what was happening and that he saw Hugo that day. I believe he was excited to go to the Rainbow Bridge with Hugo, my little Chorkie who I like to think was Max's soulmate.
I wrote this poem in hopes that it will bring comfort to others facing the same tough decision and help them feel less alone.
Dear Mum and Dad, don't cry for me, I'm chasing butterflies, wild and free. I see your tears, I feel your heart, But know we're never far apart.
You gave me cuddles, you gave me treats, You made my days so very sweet. With every pat and belly rub, You filled my life with so much love.
The choice you made was kind and right, To let me rest, to end my fight. You showed me love, you showed me care, With gentle hugs and whispers fair.
Now I’m in a place so bright, Playing in fields of endless light. I’ll wait for you, with wagging tail, Beyond the stars, beyond the veil.
So smile for me, remember fun, The games we played, the walks we’d run. You gave me joy, the bestest days, In oh so many lovely ways.
Think of me with happy thoughts, The tricks I learned, the toys I brought. You did your best, you showed you care, With all the love that we could share.
One day we’ll meet, in skies so blue, Where dreams are sweet and love is true. Till then, please know, you did just right, Your choice brought peace, and ended night.
I had a life of joy and play, Thanks to you, in every way. So don't be sad, just think of me, Happy and loved, forever free.
